Introduction
Santuário Nacional de Cristo Rei is a Catholic monument and shrine dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, standing 113 metres tall on the Alto do Pragal in Almada, on the southern bank of the Tagus River across from Lisbon. Inaugurated in 1959, it offers a viewing terrace with sweeping views over Lisbon, the Tagus River and the 25 de Abril Bridge, making it one of the region's most iconic tourist attractions.
