Introduction
Hoapili Trail, also known as the King's Highway (Alaloa o Pi'ilani), is a historic 5.5-mile coastal hiking trail on Maui's rugged South Shore, starting at La Pérouse Bay. Built and named after Governor Hoapili in 1824, the trail crosses stark lava fields from one of Maui's last eruptions and offers coastal views, wild goats, and a glimpse of a part of the island most visitors never see.
