Introduction
Tsumago-juku is a well-preserved Edo-period post town in Nagiso, Nagano Prefecture, and was the 42nd of the 69 post stations along the historic Nakasendō route between Edo and Kyoto. Its traditional wooden townscape, protected through local preservation efforts, is often regarded as one of Japan's best-preserved historic villages and is popular with hikers walking the connecting trail to nearby Magome-juku.
