Introduction
Mont-Saint-Michel is a tidal island and commune off the coast of Normandy, France, topped by a Gothic Benedictine abbey built between the 11th and 16th centuries. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and France's most-visited tourist attraction outside Paris, it becomes a true island around twenty days a year during spring tides, when the surrounding sandbanks are submerged.
