Introduction
Pamukkale, meaning 'cotton castle' in Turkish, is a natural site in Denizli Province in southwestern Turkey known for its striking white carbonate mineral terraces formed by thermal spring water cascading into turquoise pools. It is also the site of the ancient city of Hierapolis, whose ruins sit atop the terraces, and together they form a UNESCO World Heritage Site visited by around 2 million tourists annually.
