Introduction
Wat Chalong, officially Wat Chaiyathararam, is the largest and most visited Buddhist temple in Phuket, located in the Chalong subdistrict about 8 km south of Phuket Town. Built in the early 19th century, it is dedicated to two revered monks, Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang, who helped quell a Chinese rebellion on the island in 1876, and features colorful, richly detailed traditional Thai architecture. It remains an active spiritual center where locals pray daily and visitors can observe monks and explore the temple grounds free of charge, open daily from 7am to 5pm.
