Introduction
The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, commonly known as Pamplemousses Botanic Garden, is located in the village of Pamplemousses about ten kilometres northeast of Port Louis, Mauritius. Founded under French Governor Mahé de Labourdonnais and later renamed in 1988 after the country's first prime minister, it is the oldest botanical garden in the Southern Hemisphere, spanning over 60 acres with giant water lilies, numerous palm species, historical statues and a funerary monument known as the Samadhi.
