Introduction
Caleta Valdés is a long coastal lagoon (about 35 km north-south) on the eastern side of the Valdés Peninsula, roughly 75-77 km from Puerto Pirámides, formed by a natural sandbar closing off the inlet. Established as a provincial nature reserve in 1983, it is one of the peninsula's key wildlife-viewing spots, home to colonies of elephant seals, sea lions, and Magellanic penguins, with orcas also visible seasonally near Punta Cantor. Cliff-top viewpoints and walking trails offer views over the sandbanks and steep coastline, making it a highlight within the Península Valdés UNESCO World Heritage Site.
