Introduction
Almudena Cathedral is the Roman Catholic cathedral and seat of the Archdiocese of Madrid, standing opposite the Royal Palace in the city's historic center. Construction began in 1883 and took over a century, involving several architects, before Pope John Paul II consecrated it in 1993, resulting in a mix of neo-Romanesque and Baroque styles.
