Introduction
Volcanoes National Park is a protected rainforest area in northwestern Rwanda's Musanze District, covering about 160 km2 of the Virunga Massif and encompassing volcanoes including Karisimbi, Bisoke, Sabinyo and Mgahinga. It is renowned as a sanctuary for endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, and also features the Musanze Caves, an underground volcanic cave system about 2 km long.
