Introduction
Nijo Castle is a flatland castle in Kyoto built in 1603 as the residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo Period, and it served as the Kyoto seat of the Tokugawa shoguns for over 260 years. It features two concentric rings of fortifications including the Ninomaru Palace, along with moats, walls, gates, and gardens, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
