Introduction
Lanta Old Town is a historic village on the eastern coast of Koh Lanta Yai that once served as the island's main trading port and administrative center in the 19th century. Founded by Chinese merchants, it developed into a unique blend of Thai-Chinese, Thai-Muslim, and Sea Gypsy communities, reflected in its old wooden stilt houses, seaside cafes, and restaurants. Located about 16-20 km from Saladan Pier, it offers a quieter, more authentic alternative to the island's busier tourist areas.
