Introduction
The Altare della Patria, also known as the Vittoriano or Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II, is a massive national monument in Piazza Venezia, Rome, built between 1885 and 1935 to honor Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy, and to commemorate the Risorgimento unification. It features wide marble staircases, a colonnade, an equestrian statue, and houses the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, with panoramic elevators taking visitors to a rooftop terrace offering sweeping views over the city.
