Introduction
The Summer Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage imperial garden in the Haidian District of northwest Beijing, first built in 1750 and restored in 1886 after being destroyed in 1860. Spanning about 290 hectares, three-quarters of which is water, it is the largest and best-preserved royal garden in China, blending hills, lakes, and classical architecture as a former holiday residence of the Qing emperors.
