Introduction
Koko Head Crater Trail is a challenging 1.6-mile out-and-back hike in Hawaii Kai on the southeastern tip of Oahu, following the steps of a historic WWII-era tramway up 1,048 railroad-tie steps to the crater summit at about 1,200 feet. The steep, fully exposed climb rewards hikers with panoramic views of Hanauma Bay and the surrounding coastline, making it one of the most popular strenuous hikes on the island.
