Introduction
Akdamar Island is the second largest of the four islands in Lake Van, eastern Turkey, reached by a short ferry crossing from the port of Gevaş. It is home to the 10th-century Church of the Holy Cross, an Armenian cathedral with ancient monastery ruins, set amid striking lake scenery.
