Introduction
The Ruins of St. Paul's are the remnants of a 17th-century Catholic religious complex in Santo António, Macau, comprising the iconic granite façade of what was once the Church of Mater Dei, once considered the largest Catholic church in Asia, along with adjoining ruins of St. Paul's College. The church was destroyed by fire in 1835, leaving only the Baroque façade, which is decorated with biblical and Christian symbolism blended with Chinese design elements. It is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed landmark and one of Macau's most famous and photographed sights.
