Introduction
Fortaleza do Monte, also known as Monte Fort, is a 17th-century Portuguese fortress built by Jesuits between 1617 and 1626 atop a 52-meter hill in Santo António, Macau. It served as the historical military centre of the city, defending it against pirates and invasions, and today forms part of the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre of Macau, with the Macau Museum located on its grounds. Visitors can explore its courtyards, historic cannons, and enjoy panoramic views over downtown Macau and Zhuhai.
