Introduction
Bo-Kaap is a historic neighbourhood on the slopes of Signal Hill in Cape Town, formerly known as the Malay Quarter, renowned for its brightly painted houses and cobblestone streets. It is one of the oldest surviving neighbourhoods in the city, home to a predominantly Muslim Cape Malay community with historic mosques and a rich cultural heritage.
