Introduction
Beihai Park is a former imperial garden immediately northwest of the Forbidden City in central Beijing, first built in the 12th century and among the largest and best-preserved of China's surviving imperial gardens. Its centerpiece is Jade Island, topped by a white Tibetan-style Buddhist stupa (White Pagoda) built in 1651, and the park blends northern grandeur with southern Chinese garden refinement.
