Introduction
Nigatsudo Hall is part of Todaiji Temple in Nara, Japan, and is the site of Omizutori (Shuni-e), a sacred water-drawing Buddhist ceremony held annually from March 1 to 14. Dating back over 1,250 years to the 8th century, it is one of Japan's oldest continuously performed Buddhist rituals, featuring monks running with large burning torches whose sparks shower onto spectators gathered below the hall.
